The Victron Orion Smart 15A 12V to 24V DC-to-DC Battery Charger is an intelligent multi-stage battery charger designed to automatically charge a 24V battery or battery bank from a 12V source battery or bank. Its compact and lightweight design allows seamless integration into existing systems, making it ideal for vehicles, boats, and solar setups where a secondary battery needs to be charged efficiently and safely.

Function:

This smart battery-to-battery charger draws energy from a 12V source battery—such as an engine starter battery consistently charged by an alternator or a primary battery charged by solar or mains—to charge a 24V target battery. The Orion Smart operates at a maximum current of 15A, using a fully automatic multi-stage charging algorithm with built-in overcharge protection.

It is perfect for upgrading a single battery system to a dual battery system without requiring a replacement of your existing solar charge controller. The unit can also operate in DC conversion mode, delivering a stable output voltage with minimal electrical noise, suitable for sensitive DC equipment.

• Bluetooth connectivity: Monitor and configure the charging process remotely using the VictronConnect app, without needing physical access to the unit.


• Safe unattended charging: Offers complete protection against overload, overheating, overvoltage, short circuit, and reverse current discharge, allowing continuous connection to the source battery.

• Remote on/off control: The unit can be manually switched on or off via a wired switch, external relay, or VictronConnect app, enabling automatic control by a Battery Management System if required.


• Vehicle battery optimisation: Efficiently charges 24V batteries in vehicles with smart alternators or Euro 6+ emission systems, providing full power even on short journeys while protecting against overcharging.


• System upgrade potential: Two units can be connected in parallel to increase charging capacity, suitable for large battery systems or high-demand 24V appliances.

Compatibility:

This DC-to-DC battery charger is compatible with 12V source batteries and 24V target batteries, including lead-acid (AGM, Gel, Flooded) and lithium chemistries. It cannot be used to charge 12V batteries from a 24V battery bank.
