This Victron Energy Lynx Shunt, part of the Lynx distribution system, contains a positive busbar with a designated space for a main system fuse, and negative busbar with a shunt for battery monitoring, rated at 1000A (nominal current rating).
The Lynx Shunt houses the main system fuse. It is designed to hold a CNN fuse (not included) on the positive busbar. The fuse is monitored by the Lynx Shunt, and if the fuse blows, the power LED turns red and an alarm message is sent to the GX device. The fuse mounting studs are M8 and their centres are 63mm apart; although this is designed to fit a CNN fuse, it might be possible to fit other fuse types in this space.
The Lynx Shunt operates in a similar fashion as other Victron Energy battery monitors (such as the Victron battery monitoring smartshunt). It contains a shunt and battery monitoring electronics. Readout of the battery monitor data is via a GX device or the VRM portal.
The Lynx Shunt can communicate via VE.Can with a GX device, such as the Cerbo GX (not included), which can be connected to the VRM (Victron Remote Monitoring) portal to enable remote monitoring. The GX device will show all measured parameters, operational state, battery SoC (state of charge) and alarms. Two RJ45 VE.Can terminators are supplied with the Lynx Shunt to be used when connecting to a GX device. An RJ45 cable (not included) is required to connect the Lynx Shunt to the GX device. Once connected to the GX device, you can navigate to the Lynx Shunt settings menu on the GX device to view/set/change settings and parameters.
The Lynx Shunt has an alarm relay which can be programmed via the GX device to open or close using parameters such as battery State of charge, battery voltage, battery temperature and blown fuse. For example, the alarm relay can be used to start or stop a generator based on battery state of charge or battery voltage.
A temperature sensor (not included) is an optional item which can be connected to the Lynx Shunt to measure the battery temperature and drive the alarm relay. The temperature data or temperature alarms will also be sent to the GX device and from there to the VRM portal where the data is logged and can be accessed.
Depending on the desired outcome, the Lynx Shunt can be used by itself or in combination with a single or multiple other Lynx distribution system modules (not included) such as:
